3 Ways to Get Ready for Range Days in 2025

Did you get a new firearm over the holiday season? If you did, you may be eager to get to the gun range to put it through its paces. Or maybe you didn’t go out shooting as much as you would have liked in 2024, and you want to change that this year.
Before you head back out to the range in 2025, there are a few things you can do to get ready. These steps can set you up for a year of success at the range and help you make the most of your new striker fired 1911 or any other firearm.
Clean and Service Stored Firearms
Do you have any firearms in your gun safe that have been out of rotation for a while? It happens. Sometimes, we tend to favor certain rifles and handguns over others. If your lineup has expanded in recent months, you may take your new guns out more frequently while the old ones sit in the dark safe. There’s nothing wrong with playing favorites, but it’s important all of your handguns and rifles are cleaned, maintained, and ready for operation.
As you get ready for the year ahead at the gun range, be sure to take out the guns that haven’t been to the range in a while. Clean and service them and make sure they’re ready for your range days in the new year.
Add a New Firearm to Your Lineup
Let’s back up for a minute and say you didn’t get a new firearm over the holidays. The start of the new year is a great time to fix that. If you’re already cleaning, servicing, and taking stock of your current firearms, you might have noticed an omission in your gun safe. Or maybe there’s a firearm you’ve been thinking about getting for a while.
Why not jump on it? If you’re thinking about parting with an older gun, you might have room to add another to your gun safe. You can also use funds from a sale to put toward a new firearm. Talk about a win/win. Is it time to add that MK12 rifle to your gun safe? Or maybe a new precision bolt action rifle? Don’t be afraid to tell yourself “yes.”
Look for New Ways to Challenge Yourself
The gun range is the perfect place to put your new rifle or handgun through its paces and get it calibrated to your needs. For example, if you recently picked up a PCC 9MM, you probably want to get it dialed in. But you should go beyond your typical casual range days and try new experiences in 2025.
For instance, if you’re used to shooting at an indoor range, take things outside—and vice versa. A change of environment can be a great way to sharpen your skills. Plus, different ranges can offer different opportunities.
