4 Unique Guns to Consider Adding to Your Collection

While outsiders might not think of firearms as offering unique experiences, experienced shooters know that every rifle and pistol is different. Even if they look identical, slight variations and features can greatly impact the overall experience. Whether you’re in the market for a new firearm or your buddy is showing off his new striker fired 1911, don’t pass up your opportunity to fire any of the following guns.

Striker Fired 1911

If you’ve been to a firing range, you’ve likely had the chance to shoot a 1911. But have you had the pleasure of shooting a striker fired 1911? They look and feel like a 1911 without the traditional hammer. Because of the modern shooting mechanism, it is more reliable and consistent. It features a lower bore axis which directs more of the recoil force straight back instead of up. This means better, faster target acquisition and near-instantaneous recovery, making follow-up shots faster and more accurate.

Long-Range AR

Much like the typical 1911, you’ve also probably shot an AR15. Most ARs have a barrel length of 14.5 inches, but an AR like the MK12 rifle has an 18-inch barrel. The longer barrel is heavier, slightly reducing recoil while improving accuracy. In short, they are more accurate over longer distances than the typical AR. This means you can try out shooting targets at a longer distance, which can be trickier than your typical target practice. However, if you ever plan to enter a competition, it’s a good skill to practice.

Precision Bolt Action Rifle

Similar to the long-range AR, trying a precision bolt action rifle is a very different experience than shooting an AR or semi-automatic rifle. Instead, you have to carefully aim each shot, fire, and then reload without losing your target. It’s also much different, as the farther away from the target you are, the more pronounced small adjustments are to your shot. With the right precision bolt action rifle, even novice shooters can be on target. Plus, they’re just a blast to shoot.

9mm Rifle

Shooting a pistol caliber carbine is unlike shooting any other rifle. A PCC 9MM rifle is the ultimate combination of speed, precision, and versatility, all built around the AR platform. Because it is built around the AR platform, you’re probably already familiar with all the controls and have some muscle memory built up. Because 9mm rounds are also cheaper than other typical rifle rounds, it’s great for plinking at the range without breaking the bank. These rifles are becoming more and more popular, and if you want to expand your collection but already have a few dedicated ARs, consider picking a 9MM PCC up instead.
